Your key can become stuck in your lock when you least expect it. Recovery of the key may then appear impossible. Fortunately, you can use some tricks to extract your key from your door and repair the lock to prevent this from happening again.

SPRAY LUBRICANT

A key often gets stuck in a door lock because the lock is not well lubricated. If you have a spray lubricant, you can spray it into the lock and remove the key.

We are not always in possession of this type of product, which is why we advise you to always have an aerosol in stock in your garage.

If you have nearby neighbors, it may be worthwhile to ask if they have any spray lubricant that you could borrow to get your key out of the door.

SHAKE THE KEY

You can also try wiggling the key inside the lock to see if you can dislodge it. However, do not pull too hard as the intensity may further force the key against the locking pins, making it even more difficult for the key to coming out. A slight change in direction may dislodge the key, making it easier to remove.

ICE OR A COLD COMPRESS

Applying ice compress to the door lock and key may help remove the key more easily. Just be careful that the ice doesn't wet the key or lock. This trick works best when it's warm outside.

HOLD THE LOCK WITH ONE HAND

You can also try holding the lock with one hand while unlocking it with the other. Stabilize the lock with your hand as you turn it. This may generate enough resistance and stability to assist you in extracting the key. If you cannot secure the lock with your entire hand, you may be able to steady it with your finger.

CALL A PROFESSIONAL LOCKSMITH

If none of these tips help dislodge your key from your lock, it's time to call a locksmith Tampa for emergency service.
